With the aft bulkhead fixed in place, today I have been doing a bit thinking with mock up.

With the aft bulkhead fixed in place, today I have been doing a bit thinking with mock up.

The aft bulkhead is now in place. It is a good place and it is comfortable to pass through the opening. The bench in the dining room is 60 cm wide 5 cm more than Exlex 2020 at that was 55 cm wide. This makes it more easy to swing around, mowing my legs 180° The aft compartment have many functions to...

Aft bulkhead tested and immobilized on Exlex. Better than yesterday only one film wrong format.

Yesterday was boringly slow. Now I hope to make more clear. The lid is tested. When I filled with fluid water it dripped. I was sad but soon I found the culprit I was the handle. Somehow it seeped through there. I was happy again. I wound some 6 mm polyester string around. I also positioned the bulk...

Boringly slow. Faster in end at 9:44 min. Borka filmed hatchwork. Speed it up. I show textile handle

Borka the ishockey player helped me to do film today. He was better at isheckey. In the film I work very very slow. Luckily I am faster in real. I shown textile handle and a few other things. I may do more tomorrow but then there will be no one there to film. For more see Yrvind.com there you can al...
Spacers for the eye bolts to the aft bulkhead to avoid compression of the Divinycell

Spacers for the eye bolts to the aft bulkhead to avoid compression of the Divinycell

In sandwich constructions it is important to have spacers at point loads. The eye bolts create point loads. That load have to be spread out over a larger area. With the help of backing plates and spacers that is done. Spacers can also be made by remowing the Divinycell and injecting epoxy. I someti...

My new way of remotly lock and unlock a stovage hatch cover.

On the side of the bed there is storage. But below the bed there is 20 cm storage for water on the side of the bed there is side lockers about 40 cm over the mattras the are 7 cm thick. So the bottom of the side storage is 67 cm below. A 67 cm deep locker is difficult to reach the bottom of and many...

The mattras and bunk space (surface). It will be 178 cm long and 90 cm wide.

Here is the mattras. Now when I see it in place it seams much to big. But it is a balance. Alone at sea it can be less. Exlex 2020 had 70 cm wide and 185 cm long. In port it is nice to have more space. Bris bunk was 110 cm wide. Aluminum Bris 120 cm wide Amfibie Bris 120 cm wide but with edges slop...

Big and small are different Bonos Tanso peel ply.

Today I again try to explain why I do not make the bulkhead hatches so they can close from the inside. It is a complication, I like to keep things simple. Some people say that will be good if the hull gets penetrated. But in my world the hull of Exlex will never get penetrated. How can I be so sure ...

Not much to show today. Getting the rim even and a few other things. Nothing new.

Today I have mainly been slowly working to get the rim of the hatch even. I have measured and decided to cut 10 mm of. Then I scribed it and cut it with my jigsaw using a carbon abrasive blad. Important is if you err, err outwards otherwise there will be a lott of grinding to get it even. Grinding I...

A new maskin. I have bought a new maskin to complement my old one. I will use it much.

The new maskin is a kind of disk sander. The first one I bought about 30 years ago at a time when my economy was much better when I still gained money from talks and books. I was in Värnamo to buy a bandsaw from EJCA. The salesman suggested I also buy a disksander. As I said I had much more money at...

There have been much confusion about my hatches. Here I try to clearify. It ia really very simple.

Today 3 girls from the Filmschol in Gamleby have been here to interviuw me. I took the opportunity to ask them to film this video. They also tried to teach me a bit about imovie. I am rather thick headed so it will take some time. They live not far away and I made shure to get the phone numbers of a...
The cover fits the coaming. And the importance of being able to change a gasket in the field.

The cover fits the coaming. And the importance of being able to change a gasket in the field.

Lucky again. The cover fits very nicely over the coaming. Also about my idea of gasket. Gaskets deteriorate over time. By definition a cruising boat is meant to be away from ship yards often in a desolate location. There it is not easy to change a gasket. To glue a modern gaskets you need warm and d...

Laminating inside aft bulkhead hatch. This creates a sandwich construction a strong hatch.

By laminating the inside I have now connected the inside and the outside laminate having the Divinycell core in the middle this creates a strong rigid and light hatch. For more on my voyages see yrvind.com there you can also donate on Paypal and Swish

Bonus video. Yrvinds constant weight diet in three simple steps.

Doing hatches one have to consider the size of the person passing through. That I my weight will not ballon out of control I have come up with the YRVINDS CONSTANT WEIGHT DIET The word diet comes from old French, from Latin diaeta, way of living, diet, from Greek diaita. . It is a powerful diet th...

Evaluating injection and the beginning of hatch two. Also the very beginning of hatch two

I have injected epoxy to the edges for the bulkheads since 2009 I think. I have experimented with different methods refining my technique. This way is the best so far. There is a short time window to do it before the epoxy sets. To speed it up I mixed and poured to much epoxy, but better a good resu...

The epoxy injection succesfully done. It went very well. But I learnt a better way.

Everything went fine but there was a bit of panik when the epoxy started to overflow. I should have known better. This is what I learnt. The outgoing hose should end higher up than the ingoing. A child could have figured that out. now I know for the next bulkheads and coming boats. I did not know ho...
Reinforced fillet on aft side of forward bulkhead. Also preparing for injecting epoxy.

Reinforced fillet on aft side of forward bulkhead. Also preparing for injecting epoxy.

The epoxy will add about 16 000 kilo strenght. Every square centimeter of Divinycell have a tension strenght of 22 kilos, the bulkhead is 3 cm thick the periferic is about 200- 300 cm. Mulitply it gives aboaut 16 000 kilos. That makes it worth injecting epoxy. I cannot imagine that that extra stren...

Foreward bulkhead in place. Part of the fore end has been filleted and reenforced with carbon fibre.

Foreward bulkhead in place. I have started the filliting and reenforced it with carbon fibre. The lead pieces and clamps are still in place preventing me to do it all around. Without the support it may not stay in place. For more information on my boats and cruises see Yrvind.com There you can also ...

Done the water test. I turned out to be a complete succes. 100% water proof hatrches. At 3 hour.

Everything went very well. The hatch was 100 % waterproof. Not one drop af water even after several hours. This was the forward bulkhead hatch. Now I hope that the other ones will be as fine. To have a boat with a compartment that is always completly dry is desirible. Still prodictions boats are not...

Hatchwork again. Preparing a water test

None of the bulkheads are done. Before doing more work on #2 hatch I have decided to do a test with water on #1. I will hand saw the strapes put pressure on the gasket and fill the space with water no water is an exellent result. A few drips will be OK. Stay tuned for the results. For more on my boa...

Doing an other hatch lid. The problem is to get an accurate shape. A I made a device to scribe it

The hatch lid have to fit with close tolerances the rim or coaming but the labyrinth makes it difficult to scribe it. I like to have a margin of 4 mm that it does not get stuck. To make it I made a little device that will help me to scribe it. Also the shops have due to corona run out of polystyrene...

Gluing on hatch

This is not to exciting, just routine work. But what is interesting is that this is the secound bulkhead hatch and I am learning all the time so it gets better than the first one. I am learning all the time. Still the first hatch is good. I mean even if you do good work by experience and thinking it...
