Salt & Tar: Episode 55-Sampson Post and Battery Bank

Our final weeks of water life are upon us. Do not fret we are super excited about our haul out. In this episode we take on the sampson post and installing our house battery bank. The sampson post is our last big construction project while at Judy’s dock. It went smoothly. We took our time while also tackling the battery box in the middle. The sampson post is a crucial part of our anchoring set up. We won’t use it all the time but when we need it it will be there and be strong. We’ve gone with 4 6volts paired in series to make 2 12volts then paralleled to double our amp hours. So far the best battery set up we’ve experienced is with 6 volt batteries. We may add another pair of 6volts down the road but for now we’re really happy with our capacity for power. Next episode we finish up a few other system installs and then take the dinghy out for a little day on the river! The preparations are near complete. Haul outs have become such a normal part of life for Garrett and I that we can truly be excited and not fearful. It’s the best place to get a LOT of boat work done. We can’t wait to set up our work space and get these last big things done! Then we can look forward to our next stage with the boat, anchoring ever closer to the open ocean 🙂
