Ep 21 in this video we get the right weather window to set off across the Bay of Biscay. With a healthy combination of nerves and excitement we cast the lines and head out of the Marina Moulin Blanc. The weather is good but the wind is a little light so the engine is on. As we go out through the Goulet De Brest we are treated to a dolphin show, which lasts all the way out of the entrance. As the first day draws to a close we set our course for the north west coast of Spain and get to find out how far is left to travel.
Day2 brings an Atlantic swell and a sea sick Rebecca. With no way of stopping, we try to make her as comfortable as possible. As the day goes by the wind starts to swing around more to the east which is where the forecast said it was going to be which allowed us to get the cruising shoot out, this is a big sail with a lot of power and can only be used in light winds in the right direction. With this beautiful sail flying we cruise along nicely making good speed.
Day 3 is very much the some as day 2, Rebecca was still feeling sick and the swell was still there but we were into our last 100 mile with an arrival time of midnight we try to get every last bit of speed out of the wind. As the day goes by the wind starts to drop and the engine is turned back on. Then we see it… the Spanish coast appearance in the distance like a cloud on the horizon. soon it is easy to see things on the land. As the sun goes down we can see La Coruna in the distance and by eleven thirty we were setting our anchor and looking forward to a good sleep, ready to see our new home.
