Ep16 To Portsmouth

Ep16 To Portsmouth Sees Rhumor set off from Brighton on a wet and overcast day. As we make our way along the coast we soon see the Isle of Wight on the port bow. As the sun brightens the sky the boat and her crew slowly starts to wake up.

With Portsmouth on the starboard bow and the forts all around we knew it wouldn’t be long until we are safely in Haslar Marina.
Once moored up it is time to explore our new home. With the massive historic dock yards all around us we know there wouldn’t be a dull day and with the added Queens Jubilee celebrations falling at the same time it was going to be a struggle to fit it all in before we have to leave.

The dock yards are great-the tickets are valid for a year, it is worth its money because it will take at least 2 or 3 days to get round all there is to see and probably 5 to 6 days to get the most out of it. (which we did)

Claire’s friend Glenys had contacted Claire to say she was in the area training and was hoping to meet up for dinner and a catch-up, there was a berth along side us which she managed to get and after a full day of training she decorated her boat with flags and bunting for the jubilee and then made a lovely meal for her students and us four. Hats off to her for her drive and enthusiasm.

With little warning Claire heard that the aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth the second was on her way in to Portsmouth after 6 weeks at sea. She was massive making her way into Portsmouth harbour, with less than a meter clearance, She was great to see.

Auntie Leigh, Uncle Paul, Sophie and Mollie where in the area on holiday so we spent the weekend with them all. we even went out for a quick trip out into the Solent and back. They stayed for 2 days, it is always good to see family and the girls loved playing with their cousins.

With the Jubilee weekend starting Portsmouth was brought alive with firework displays and lighting of a beacon. We also got to take part in a sounding of the ships horns with was fun and made us feel even more part of the celebrations.

Then it was time to leave on another wet and overcast day, we slipped the lines and set off for Poole, Dorset

Hope you enjoy.
Thanks for watching.
