The time has come to leave the Cook Islands…well, technically the time has passed because our tourist visa expired while we were riding out the never ending blow in Palmerston. The weather has settled and we have a very small window to sail to the tiny island of Niue.
Our seas are stunning, the down wind sail is perfect and the cats are loving the smooth ride. Until Mother Nature decides to throw us a curve ball: 30+ knots of wind for 24 hours straight. There’s a massive weather system blowing 60+ just south of us, so the waves build in no time!
The waves don’t look huge from the video but believe me when we tell you they were crashing over the hard top. That means they were at least 15 feet tall! Whew, the force of those waves remind us just how powerful the seas can be.
