Welcome aboard SV Nakama, We are Slim & Soph a young Aussie couple tryna get by living aboard our tiny retro sailboat with our cat Chilli. We sail the Australian coastline whilst attending university online and take you with us. After putting study on the back burner for years as we didn’t want to sacrifice adventure, we thought why not have both? Fed up with the outrageous rental prices in our hometown, the idea of doing it afloat came to mind. We figured we could scrape by on our tight student budget if we stopped paying way too much rent and lived minimally on the ocean, whilst continuing our passion for adventure. The plan for now, is to keep sailing onwards, keeping Australia to our left and once we're done doing that...Who knows. Our mission is to prove that anyone can do it, you don’t need the fanciest boat or a squillion bucks, just a whole lot of ambition and a willingness to make mistakes and learn. We are only slightly freaking out about how little time we have left until the cruising season begins here in Australia, we still have boat jobs on the list and finding the time to do them is seemingly challenging. However, this week we managed to finally get Nakama back to being electrically self-sufficient, in preparation to being off gird once again. We have also gotten rid of our very old and very leaky windows and replaced them with very new and not at all leaky windows. We have a couple new creature comforts installed too and Nakama’s engine will hopefully start the first time every time after installing a new starter motor.
