#47 - De-stepping the mast

The mast has come down!!! After 40 years standing proud and tall the mast came down today for a complete refit and to facilitate further repairs to the coachroof and chain plates.
We also welcome back our good friend Tim, who is a marine engineer and experienced sailor. Tim is studying marine engineering and he is mid way through the clipper round the world yacht race, which of course has been halted due to COVID. We’re privileged to have him join us and lend his skills taking measurements and doing calculations to give us some interesting indeas on how Melody might sail once she’s back in the water.

We are Andy, Melissa and Jack, a sailing family based in North Wales, and for the past couple of years we have been looking for a bluewater sailing yacht to take us around the world.

Well we’ve finally found her. Our new sailing yacht is a John Teal designed 38ft Steel Pilothouse Cutter. She has been standing ashore for at least 15 years and now we’re embarking on the huge challenge of refitting her and doing her up ready to go sailing around the world.
