After seven years building Synergy, this is exactly the kind of place we built her for. In this episode we’re anchored at Pearl Bay — our favourite spot on the Queensland coast, tucked inside the Shoalwater Bay military zone where there’s no development, just wilderness and some of the clearest water in Australia. Then the weather turns, and we run for Great Keppel Island to ride out a 30-knot southerly buster with 30–40 other boats packed into Svendsen’s Beach.

We also put the new water maker to work (around 200 litres of fresh water made underway), deal with a 4.5-metre tide, and talk about why cruising life is all about reading the weather windows.
