This is a great example of the legendary Nauticat 40 Pilothouse, designed by Sparkman and Stevens and built by Sitala in Finland. This is a rare boat, and with that I'd argue that she's delightfully weird in that you just don't see designs quite like this in boats of this size and vintage.

Tell me another 40' yacht from the 80s that incorporates a ketch rig, aft cockpit, pilothouse, huge galley, full beam aft cabin with an en-suite head, and a large forward cabin and second head? Combine that with a robust below the waterline fin keel and skeg-hung rudder. I'll wait.

I think this is my new favorite 40' design from this timeframe.

Prepare to be captivated by a true marvel in sailing yachts – the exceptionally rare 1985 Nauticat 40.

A Voyage Through Time: The Rare 1985 Nauticat 40 Sailboat

Step aboard this magnificent vessel and be mesmerized by its unique combination of features that set it apart from other sailboats in its class. This exceptional yacht offers an aft cockpit, a luxurious pilothouse design, an expansive galley, and a sumptuous full-beam aft cabin.

Aft Cockpit Marvel

One of the standout features is undoubtedly the spacious and protected cockpit. With a layout that seamlessly integrates an aft deck on the same level, this design provides a unique sailing experience.

The addition of a brake right by the transom offers convenience for managing water flow during sea conditions. Even your dinghy has its place, with davits and a cover that perfectly complements the mizen’s surrounding. A ladder provides easy access from the stern to your dinghy.

Pilot House Design

The pilot house design of this sailboat is yet another feature that draws attention. Offering 360-degree views, it serves as both a helm station and a comfortable lounge area where you can enjoy your meals or simply relax.

Protected by a dodger and featuring a hydraulic steering system, the interior helm position offers convenient access to all systems within the galley. It’s an ideal setup for those who prefer a protected and comfortable sailing experience.

Spacious Galley

The heart of the galley, with its large countertop space, storage units, sink, and stove, showcases Nauticat’s emphasis on creating a functional and comfortable environment. It’s truly surprising for a boat of this size.

Luxurious Aft Cabin

Don’t miss the breathtaking full-beam aft cabin, a true masterpiece. The queen-sized bed in a spacious and well-stored room offers an unmatched comfort level that’s rare to find on sailing yachts.

The Nauticat 40 Experience

This sailboat isn’t just about aesthetics; it also promises a robust and reliable sailing experience with its Yanmar engine and Beta Marine generator. It’s evident that this Nauticat 40 is the result of meticulous care, ensuring her seaworthiness and readiness for adventures.

The Right Combination

Combine all these elements – from the rare design to the comfortable living quarters, top-notch marine systems, and sheer beauty of her teak decking – it’s clear why this Nauticat 40 captivated both its creator and prospective buyers alike.

Ready for Adventure

This unique sailboat could be your gateway to unforgettable cruising adventures. It offers the perfect blend of functionality, style, and comfort for couples or small families looking to embark on a sailing journey around the world.
