Nobody wants to drink contaminated water and people think fresh water storage tanks are unsanitary. We’ve met people that live in RVs, Motorhomes, Vans, Tiny House, Off Grid Cabins, power boats and sailboats that simply won’t use the water in their tanks for drinking. Instead they chose to go to the store and load up on gallons and gallons of plastic water bottles and jugs. We think that is absolutely crazy, but we also understand they don’t want to get sick from drinking water.

Today we’re sharing how we store fresh water aboard our sailing catamaran CURIOSITY, and how we turn that into water that’s better than bottled…but most importantly it’s water that’s PURE and SAFE to drink straight out of the tap. These are tips from our Life on a Boat (and our 7 years of RV travel before that).

There are a ton of ways sailors get drinking water on their boats, and some will drink the ‘dock water’ or ‘rain water’ without purifying or filtering it. We say it’s risky, but that’s totally cool if they want to use whatever water source as their fresh water.
