Cave diving – are you sure? That’s dark! We get a new diving camera with lights…Ep32

We leave Blue Lagoon and travel 15nm to the south of Yasawa Island. We visit the limestone caves that the bay is famous for. We climbed the steps to enter the cave then plunged into the cool underwater cave world. We were there with Renegade, Zatara and the Wynns as well as Cat’Leya. Our friends had been there before and showed us where they caves were and how to enter. Fortunately they also knew where to swim underwater to enter the second cave. Margy was a bit nervous of diving into the dark water, and worried that she might not find the right place to come up for air. Fortunately it all went swimmingly and she was very pleased with herself for taking the plunge! We all swam further up the second cave with the help of torches and explored the nooks and crannies of the cave. Then of course we had to come back and duck dive below water to get back out into the first cave – thankfully that went well too. We also went ashore to the nearby village to do sevusevu with some kava for the chief, food for the villagers and books for the school. We also took some “Days for Girls” kits to the nursing station. Solo is the first nurse in the nursing station that was built by an australian rotary club about 7 years ago. It took the village 7 years to get a nurse and he now has a big job ahead of him to educate the village about healthy eating, good maternity care, coming to the nursing station early in a health problem (rather than waiting until people are quite sick and may not be able to be helped by the nursing station) and many other priorities. He said he’s very happy in the village and isn’t homesick for his hometown of Suva. We snorkeled and kayaked in the beautiful bay and enjoyed the wonderful views. We heard that our new camera had arrived in Denarau so we quickly headed back, making it in one day in our beautiful Leopard. We excitedly opened the packages with the Sony Rx 100 Mk5 and the Nauticam housing and video lights (thanks Josie from Dive 2000 in Neutral Bay in Australia). This will help us record the beautiful marine life that we see while diving. Thanks to Deep Blue of Denarau for the wonderful Open Water dive course, you set us up for wonderful underwater adventures. We’re so glad we did the course.
