Welcome aboard SV Nakama, We are Slim & Soph a young Aussie couple tryna get by living aboard our tiny retro sailboat with our cat Chilli. We sail the Australian coastline whilst attending university online and take you with us. After putting study on the back burner for years as we didn’t want to sacrifice adventure, we thought why not have both? Fed up with the outrageous rental prices in our hometown, the idea of doing it afloat came to mind. We figured we could scrape by on our tight student budget if we stopped paying way too much rent and lived minimally on the ocean, whilst continuing our passion for adventure. The plan for now, is to keep sailing onwards, keeping Australia to our left and once we're done doing that...Who knows. Our mission is to prove that anyone can do it, you don’t need the fanciest boat or a squillion bucks, just a whole lot of ambition and a willingness to make mistakes and learn. It all started with fun and games, Soph’s Mum & Dad made the journey to come spend Christmas day with us. We very excitedly got Nakama back out on the water, and found a pristine anchorage to devourer a cheese board, exchange gifts and wait for the tide to swing to get back into Airlie. But then, New Years came around and so did Covid. After 2 years of sailing away from Covid-19 lockdowns it has finally caught us. We start the new year off right by isolating in a 10 metre hot box for 7 days, excited at first but ready to strangle each other by the 5 day…it’s just so sweaty.
