What do sailors eat for Christmas dinner when they live out on the ocean, far away from land, friends and family? This week we are going hunting for lobsters in Minerva Reef, as we pause on our offshore passage from Tonga to New Zealand.
We have never hunted for lobster before but Minerva Reef is the place to do it, and the South atoll in particular is an incredible place with abundant life. We had heard that if you walk out to the breaking waves at low tide, you can jump in the holes in the reef and look underwater to try your luck and catching them with your bare hand. It wasn't as easy as we first thought but it's a skill we won't forget for a while!
Enjoy this little glimpse at Christmas from the other side of the world. What are you having for your Christmas dinner? Will you be eating sea food??
