This week, we sail into the Newry Island Group — a place we’d never even heard of before — and what a hidden gem it turned out to be! 🏝️
Newry Island was actually the first resort built in the Whitsundays, dating all the way back to the 1920s through to 2001. The place is full of untold stories and a quiet charm that time seems to have forgotten.
We hiked both Outer Newry and Newry Islands, each with its own character and beauty, then tried our luck crabbingagain — and finally had success! 🦀 Three in total this time! Hunting and gathering life isn’t easy, but it sure is rewarding.
We also explored Mausoleum and Rocky Islands — both absolutely stunning and surprisingly untouched for somewhere so close to the coast. Most people just pass them by, but trust me, they’re worth the stop.
To wrap up the week, we tucked into Rabbit Island to hide from the northerly winds and enjoy some calm days in nature.
