This is It! Final Checks Before Leaving FOREVER!
After over a year at our home port, we are preparing to leave and begin our sailing adventure. We will be heading slightly north for the first two weeks and then making our way further south. While there is always some level of nervousness before setting out on such an extended journey, this time, the feeling is heightened as we now have a baby with us!
To ensure that everything is in perfect working order and to minimize any potential problems on our journey, we have put together an extensive checklist covering engine checks, sales, steering systems, navigation equipment, safety gear, interior systems, life jackets, and provisions. Our goal is to cover every detail from head sail furling systems, checking anchors and chains, making sure batteries are fully charged and everything on the boat is functioning properly before our departure.
Throughout this episode of Sailing Melody, we will go through each item on our checklist, providing a thorough rundown of how to make sure your boat and family are ready for the open sea. We will discuss our preparations in detail from changing oil to inspecting our safety gear and making sure everything is packed and secure on the boat.
This step-by-step walkthrough ensures that you get all the essential tips to make the best of your sailing adventures, whether it’s preparing for a quick weekend sail or an extensive journey across oceans. Our priority has always been safety first, so we will also talk about navigation and how we prepare ourselves with tools like paper charts, digital charts on tablets and phones, and our understanding of local waters.
