Installing Stack Packs: A Challenging Journey on Ocean Melody
Melissa, a liveaboard sailor aboard her boat Ocean Melody, takes on the huge project of installing stack packs in this week’s episode.Finally, she reveals the making and installation of these pack on the sailboat while sharing details about working within a tight timeline due to her move from Canavan to Deanway Marina.A Massive Fabric Piece Overwhelms
In this episode, you’ll see how Melissa was overwhelmed with the huge piece of fabric and a significant challenge that comes along with making two main mast stack packs. She started cutting panels in the early hours when she finally found some time to work on her project.Help from Heidi
Her friend, Heidi, lends a helping hand by loaning Melissa a sewing machine which aids in making the process easier. Along with that, she is gifted hot glue which is essential for cutting fabrics without unraveling them.Sewing Techniques and Challenges
Throughout this episode, Melissa teaches herself various sewing techniques including installing a zipper onto the top part of the stack pack. Despite her lack of prior experience with sewing zippers on heavy fabrics, she manages to make one for her project.Learning from Other Boats
To ensure that Melissa’s stack pack fits properly and isn’t saggy like many others seen on other boats, she takes some time to visit nearby boats in Deanway Marina. There, she observes how lazy Jacks come near the end of bags to ensure a snug fit for their sails.A Journey with Setbacks
