Meet Maya, Aladino, and Magic Carpet. We all ended up together because of 1) a tragic accident, 2) an amazing miracle, and 3) an inspirational mentor. Here’s how it all began.
Aladino and I met in summer 2017. He was sailing his boat in the Mediterranean, and I was working on a boat in the same area. We fell in love, and are now finishing work on Magic Carpet, a Vindo 32 which we plan to sail around the world (slowly).
This channel will tell the story of the restoration and the sailing trip to follow.
The thing is, the story of how we ended up in the same place at the same time is full of some pretty amazing details. Three pivotal things happened. Without these things, we never would have met.
1) Aladino biked the length of a continent, and met an old man who became his mentor and changed his life.
2) Maya was given a boat at age 18, for $1, from some random strangers she still hasn’t met
3) A gorgeous sailboat fell 20ft from a crane onto concrete, and was destroyed (at first).
Add those three things together, and you get, well, us.
