🌊 Our First 1,000-Mile Atlantic Passage: Killer Whales, a Stowaway & No Land in Sight
After months of cruising through the Caribbean, it’s finally time for the biggest adventure we’ve undertaken yet as liveabord sailors; the first leg of our Atlantic crossing aboard our Kadey Krogen 55, MOONFLEET.
In this episode of Unanchored Life, we leave St. Thomas and set course for Bermuda on a 1,000-mile offshore passage with our dog Gypsy. Along the way, we’re treated to an unforgettable encounter with killer whales, discover an unexpected feathered stowaway onboard, and begin the challenge of convincing Gypsy that a patch of artificial grass on a moving boat is now her official bathroom.
We also pass along the edge of the infamous Bermuda Triangle, tackle life underway with no land in sight, perform maintenance at sea, and enjoy some of the most spectacular sunsets we’ve ever witnessed from the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
This is the reality of long-distance passagemaking: equal parts adventure, beauty, problem-solving, exhaustion, wildlife encounters, and moments that remind us why we chose this life in the first place.
