🚨 ENGINE FAILURE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ATLANTIC? Day 15 Turns Into an Emergency Diversion
A shrieking engine alarm in the middle of the night, an engine that wouldn’t restart, and the possibility of an emergency diversion to São Miguel… this was not how we expected Day 15 of our Atlantic crossing to unfold.
What began as a routine night watch quickly became one of the most stressful moments of our entire voyage. With Moonfleet underway in the North Atlantic and bad weather approaching, Captain Ken had to rapidly diagnose a potentially serious engine problem while we altered course and prepared for the possibility of seeking refuge in the Azores.
In this episode, you’ll see the real reality of long-distance passagemaking aboard our Kadey Krogen 55 expedition trawler. Ocean crossings aren’t all spectacular sunsets and dolphins. Sometimes they’re sleepless nights, alarming noises, troubleshooting critical systems, and hoping the fix is something simple.
Thankfully, after some determined detective work in the engine room, Ken traced the problem to a battery issue rather than a major engine failure. Disaster avoided… this time.
With only five days remaining before landfall, we’re getting closer to completing the final leg of our Atlantic crossing, but Mother Nature still has a few surprises in store.
