All Systems Go! How To Keep A Boat Running During A Refit | Boat Refit Documentary Part 16

Boats! If you don't use them regularly they start to break. Well, maybe the boat itself doesn't break but the onboard systems sure don't like a hiatus.

This is one of the reasons (aside from the fact we'd be sailing all the time if we could) we've been using our boat regularly during the refit. By "using it regularly" I mean live-aboard stints, where your batteries are put to work and reliance on onboard systems for self-sufficiency becomes key.

A few people have been asking us what systems we use, so this video gives an overview of the main ones. It also shows a few of our tips and tricks, like:

✅ The Magma 'Rock n Roll' Boat Stabiliser we use to make our lives at anchor more comfortable (https://magmaproducts.com/products/35-in-rock-n-roll-boat-stabilizer);
✅ Our modified side-clears, keeping the cockpit (semi) dry while still letting in some breeze (Thank you once again Ullman Sails Whitsunday https://whitsunday.ullmansails.com);
✅ Our Raymarine and B&G navigation equipment (https://www.raymarine.com.au https://www.bandg.com/en-au/)
✅ Our 12 Volt Waeco fridge systems, and how we keep them manageable - https://www.dometic.com/en-au/outdoor/food-and-beverage/fridgefreezers);
✅ Our Victron battery charging system (https://www.victronenergy.com);

We don't have any kind of affiliation with any of the above products or services but they work for us, and well, a genuine review is better than an ad any day in my book.

This video is also a snapshot of sailing some of the Whitsunday islands, and an insight into family life in a 14-metre moving space!

Enjoy the show, and welcome aboard for the ride ⛵️

Pardey Time at the Whitsunday Sailing Club!

As soon I discovered that the inimitable Lin Pardey would be sharing her story at our local Whitsunday Sailing Club, the first thing I did was ensure my whole family and I were booked in. Like many cruising sailors, I'm a Pardey fan, so the chance to see...

FUEL FOR THOUGHT: How to Remove, Fix, and Re-install an Auxiliary Fuel Tank (The Hobbit Hole Part 1)

After spending an unexpected and extended amount of time fixing the hull-to-deck join, bulwark, scuppers and caprail, it’s been nice to move back inside Brilliant II to continue the interior refit. Next on the list has been our “Hobbit Hole”, or as...

Toe-tally Brilliant!! How to Restore the Cap-Rail on a 45-Year-Old Monohull

We did it!! Well almost… The final piece of our hull-to-deck-join puzzle was the teak toe-rail, which, like everything else about this job, needed a drastic fix in order to ‘cap’ it off (pun intended). When we initially removed the rail from the...

We’ve Been Scuppered! How to Fix Damaged Bulwarks, Scuppers, and Deck Gear Attachment Points

In the words of the inimitable Lady Gaga: “Once you kill a cow, you gotta make a burger”. Or as we Brits would say: “In for a penny, in for a pound”. Both of these sayings refer to that place you go, when you’re so far down a particular rabbi...
