Sailor Shinde
In 2026, Indian-born Canadian solo offshore skipper Gaurav Shinde documents the purist seamanship and technical preparation required for solo non-stop circumnavigation aboard Good Hope, his 1980 Robert H. Perry designed Baba 35 cutter. A veteran of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race and an Indian national offshore champion, Shinde undertook an extensive structural refit of his heavy-displacement double-ender in Toronto, Lake Ontario, removing teak decks, converting to tiller steering, and sealing systems for the retro Golden Globe Race. After suffering severe shoulder dislocations during his 2022 transit in New York waters that forced a disciplined medical retirement, Shinde maintains Good Hope on the hard in New Jersey while undergoing orthopedic rehabilitation and engineering his long-term solo ocean racing return.
