Facing OBSTACLES before UNTYING the LINES (boat restoration is never easy) — Sailing Yabá 206
May 12, 2024 by Sailing Yabá | Language: EN Play Time: 00:23:45 | SAILING YOUTUBERS

Sailing enthusiasts have always been fascinated by the stories of those who embark on restoring an old boat back to its glory days. It’s a long journey filled with hard work, determination, and endless surprises. Sailing Yabá is no stranger to this experience, as they continue their restoration journey for their beautiful 206 sailboat in a series of episodes.
Facing OBSTACLES before UNTYING the LINES (boat restoration is never easy)
In this particular episode, we find the crew returning to their work at the yard after a brief overnighting experience. Their time spent anchored was filled with excitement and joy; however, reality calls as there are still several items on their list that need completion before they can officially set sail on their grand adventure.
Mast Lights Installation
The first significant task tackled in this episode involves the installation of new Mast Lights. A critical element in navigation, particularly at night or in poor visibility conditions, these lights can mean the difference between a smooth sail and an unpleasant encounter with other boats or objects. As we follow Sailing Yabá’s team, they work on acquiring the right equipment and designing custom decals for their boat.
Decals Design and Application
In a fun twist, we also get to see how they go about creating unique decals featuring sailing-related imagery. This process involves careful planning and measuring as well as precise application on the boat’s surface.
The Challenges Faced
As with any restoration project, challenges are expected. Whether it’s finding the right materials, ensuring perfect alignment during installation, or even unexpected difficulties while climbing up the mast, Sailing Yabá navigates each obstacle head-on and with good humor.
Moving Forward
Upon successfully completing these tasks, the crew is left eagerly anticipating their upcoming maiden voyage. The journey has brought them closer together as friends and co-workers, instilling a sense of pride and accomplishment.

💙 Who are we?
We are Ben and MP!
Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the work needed was much more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way.
