We travel to San Francisco to look at a 1997 Grand Soleil GS 50. This is a slightly older version of the one we saw in Puerto Rico, and is a Doug Peterson design. The DP version carries the flavor of a German Frers Swan, with two separate cockpits separated by a traveler assembly. It’s a single helm design with heavier displacement and a more sea-kindly forefoot. Lots of big winches mark it as a boat from an era when hardware wasn’t the cost center that it is today.
