Why would you want or need to re-index your feathering prop?
In our case, we’ve been living with limitations on engine RPMs. Specifically, when motoring we couldn’t go above 2,000 RPMs or the engine would start to heat up. Staying below 2,000 worked fine, but it isn’t how the boat was delivered.
Over time, I became convinced that one of the techs who worked on the prop (there have been two) did not put the prop back together the way they’d found it. As a result, I felt, the prop had become “over-pitched.” This is a condition whereby the blade angle is too steep, making it more difficult to rotate in the water. This would create excess drag on the prop, translating to the engine having to work too hard.
