Our BIGGEST SCARE living on a boat yet: Explosions on our boat??!(…and the captains’ suffering continues 😱😅)
After battling strong winds in Crete we sail to Pylos and manage to hide in an abandoned marina. Here we also meet Kostas again. A friend we made in the short time, we visited Pylos last summer. He has been so kind to find a safe space for us and SV CUBA. So we celebrate our reunion with some Greek specialities!
But during our stay we have no time to spare and soon enough we upgrade our sailing equipment. Our head sail has a rip that needs fixing, and more boat projects await us. Enrique has a brilliant idea to engineer a solution so we can edit our videos at night. Our boat battery bank is not the best and our laptop battery is even worse. At night, therefore, we have no option to work on our sailing episodes.
With a bit of ingenuity, however, we are now able to even use our old laptop at night! A massive boat upgrade for us haha!
The celebration that we managed to improve our boatlife does not last too long though. A huge bang from beneath the sofa makes us jump and hide for cover!
Is that smoke shooting out from all corners below us??
Are we having a fire on our boat?
What sailboat disaster are we experiencing here?!
I am ready to get the fire extinguisher and fire blanket! Enrique is dazed and confused as he hit his head while fleeing the disaster zone.
Luckily this is not the end of our sailing adventures or our journey around the world (and the captain is not injured).
However, soon we will have to leave our safe harbour once again, as a new sailing destination lies on the horizon. In the midst of the winter, we will sail from Greece to North Africa.
While this might be an easy 5-day sail in the summer, we now have to dodge a huge weather system and we need to make a massive sailing detour. Join us next time, as we get ready for a 11-days non-stop sail to Tunisia through the Messina Strait, where our engine fails while we outrun high winds and big waves.
