E210 - Struck by Lightning in Remote Indonesia | Everything Failed
We’re jumping forward to real time because so many of you have been asking what happened to us.
On 12th November, while anchored off a tiny remote sand island called Pulau Panjang in Indonesia, No Regrets II was struck by direct lightning to the mast. The strike was devastating — it wiped out almost every electrical system onboard.
In an instant, we lost:
Navigation and instruments
Engines
Lighting
Low and high voltage power systems
Charging systems
Communications
Essentially everything electrical on the boat
This episode is Part 1 of our real-time update series, documenting what we had to do to stabilise the boat, jury-rig critical systems, and begin the long, difficult journey back toward civilisation and eventual repairs.
We’re incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received and want to share the reality of dealing with a catastrophic failure while cruising in one of the most remote regions we’ve ever sailed.
This is not the adventure we planned — but it’s one we’re living.

WHO ARE WE?
Hey there! We’re Chris and Jo, an ordinary Aussie couple living our extraordinary dream aboard our Seawind 1260 since January 2019 and now we continue from 2024 aboard our new 1370!
Our adventure began with an unforgettable journey down the east coast of Australia, followed by a sail to the stunning New Caledonia. In 2020, we continued our exploration further north, and by 2021 and 2022, we circumnavigated Australia, discovering breathtaking locations along the way.
Having previously owned fishing and water-skiing boats, our passion for sailing deepened after crewing in South Australia, leading us to make the leap into full-time living at sea.
