Planning is one of the most important aspects of sailing around the world. We often spend days or weeks researching new countries and the Philippines was no exception. Most round-the-world cruisers pass through Indonesia. It’s safe. There is lots of information from previous sailors. But that doesn’t necessarily make it the best route. After reading all we could about the Philippines we made a map and plotted where all the recent pirate attacks happened. Turns out they are all in the southern Sulu Sea. The central Philippines hosts some of the most spectacular and safe cruising we have seen to date. Long sandy beaches. Sunny skies and funnelling winds excellent for Kitesurfing.
Perhaps the point is boldness and Bravery combined with research and safety pays off in spades. We are so excited to share all the stories we have experienced here in the Philippines. It is hands down the best country we have visited to date.
