It was just over a year ago that we exited Zihuantanejo harbor to make water and our overheat alarm sounded. At first we assumed our raw water intake had ingested a plastic bag, but it turned out to be the biggest boat challenge of 2020. Mechanics in Mexico, Nicaragua, and the Galapagos where unable to resolve the issue and so we sailed into Panama with the mandate to stay until the issue was fixed. Ollie and his team at Wickus Auto and Marine at Vista Mar marina dug in with a commitment to fix the issue. We loved their attitude, and our faith in them was rewarded as they were up to the task. In addition, they managed to install our newest addition to Gargoyle, a Watt & Sea hydrogenator. With both our diesel and electrical power issues resolved, Gargoyle is finally ready to transit the Panama Canal.
