We are finally mobile with our own dinghy as our new electric outboard has arrived. It’s opened up a whole new world of exploration around Venice.
Boat jobs carry on at a pace. The new Bifacial solar panel arrives, it’s a big beast to fit! And the weather is good enough to start getting Fair Isle looking good for the season.
We also take a serious look at the issues of migration in the Mediterranean and the implications for sailors. As seamen we all know our first responsibility at sea is to go to the aid of anyone in distress, but politicians don’t seem to get this simple fact. Yachtsmen have been threatened with prosecution on the grounds of people smuggling for picking up migrants in trouble at sea. I say we put those politicians in a ribber dinghy for a week at sea and see if they think a passing yacht should help!
This is the number we gave in the video: 00334 8651 7161
Call it if you cannot raise the local SAR coastguards, in fact call it anyway, if there’s an NGO boat in the region they will be best placed to help, as you can see from the video they are well equipped to deal with this sort of emergency.
