Explore the stunning coast of Montenegro with us as we cruise our catamaran into the breathtaking Bay of Kotor and visit historic Herceg Novi. From peaceful anchorages near Luštica Bay to dramatic mountain scenery through the Verige Channel and Risan Bay, this episode is packed with real liveaboard sailing life in the Adriatic.
But it is not all beaches, crystal-clear water and old-town exploring… the boat jobs catch up with us. Our Aqua-Base watermaker develops a pressure problem and stops producing fresh drinking water, so we investigate a leaking high-pressure valve and attempt a repair. We also head into Herceg Novi marina for water, battery charging, windlass servicing, deck washing—and the ongoing battle with a blocked toilet.
Later, it is time for the first 50-hour Cummins Onan generator service on our new generator. John changes the generator oil and oil filter in the tightest locker on the boat, before a new generator electrical problem appears: a damaged neutral connection at the solenoid changeover switch.

Midlife sailing adventure | Retired couple living on a catamaran | Full-time liveaboard sailing We’re John & Sha, a retired couple in our mid-50s preparing to move aboard our catamaran this April. After retiring from full-time careers, we’re transitioning to full-time liveaboard sailing and documenting the entire journey. Right now, we’re sailing the Ionian in Greece. Stunning anchorages, pretty fishing villages and gusty winds are all on the agenda here. In the near future we will head off to Albania and Montenegro.
