36 - We Became Whale Researchers! (for a day)

While we sailed across the Pacific, we heard about the Niue Whale Research Project. They were looking for volunteer boats to assist in their observations of humpback whales off the coast of Niue and we immediately knew we wanted to volunteer. Unfortunately for us (but fortunately for them!) the word had spread so well that they had an abundance of volunteers and only ended up needing Starry Horizons for one day.
Most of the volunteer boats were monohulls, so they took advantage of having a catamaran to invite local students out for a day on the water. It was a lot of fun learning more about humpbacks, including what researchers do to track the whales, but the best part of the whole day was being serenaded by a few of the whales we followed!
