Sometimes life on the Motherload isn’t about sailing, surfing, or chasing the next destination.
After months of stress, changing plans, uncertainty, and emotions running high, everything suddenly shifted. Mom left Bocas del Toro in a rush and headed back to North Carolina to spend time with family as my dad—was fighting terminal cancer.
What followed was an emotional journey home: precious time with family, difficult conversations, settling affairs, and beginning to pave the road for whatever the future may hold.
Then, just like that, it was time to head back.
Back to Bocas del Toro.Back to the Motherload.Back to five boys, boat life, projects, chaos, and the reality of living aboard.
This episode is a little different. It’s about family, love, uncertainty, and finding a way forward when you don’t have all the answers.
We’re still figuring out what the future looks like for the Motherload crew—but for the first time in a while, the road ahead is starting to become a little clearer.
