The Details That Keep a Boat Dry (MJ Sailing - Episode 379)

This week, we begin fitting the Vetus hatch frames that will eventually become the windows and emergency exits for our 44-foot performance cruising catamaran. Although the hatches themselves won't be permanently installed until we're much closer to launch, now is the time to make sure every frame fits perfectly. Taking the time to get the alignment right today will help ensure a clean look, proper gasket compression, and a watertight seal for years to come.

We also complete another major milestone on our hybrid propulsion system by running one of the main cable bundles across the boat, connecting the electrical panel to the equipment on the opposite hull. It's one more behind-the-scenes project that brings us another step closer to powering up the boat.

To wrap up the week, we take a short break from the build to join our friends Ryan and Sophie aboard their beautiful home-built wooden Rhode Runner for an afternoon cruise around Annapolis. After months of building, it was a welcome reminder of why we're putting so much care into every detail of our own boat.

⛵ Follow along as we continue building our dream catamaran from the ground up!
