I have been following the Windelo brand via social media since they first started building more sustainable performance cruising catamarans. These boats are extremely unique because they employ the use of basalt fiber in lieu of traditional fiberglass, in their construction along with being a fully electric sailboat with a diesel generator backup. Combine that with a design built for performance, safety, and the best cockpit I've ever seen, and you get the unicorn, Windelo 50.
I say fully electric because you don't ever NEED to run the diesel to do anything aboard. There's a large battery bank, 6kW of solar, and twin 20kW direct electric drive motors that provide instant power. They can also provide up to 2kW of regeneration back into the battery bank under sail.
The diesel generator is there as a safety feature in the event that you NEED more power.
It's the perfect setup for the modern age of cruising.
