Holly and Ray Sail Across the Pacific Ocean (Part 4)

Last week you watched us test out every head sail we own as we navigated our way through the doldrums. This week, join us as we catch our first glimpse of land upon arriving in the Marquesas Islands. I’ll be honest – I’m a bit nervous about going into the Pacific for the first time! The thought of it is absolutely terrifying, but exciting at the same time! Let’s hope everything goes well.

The Journey

It’s day 23 of our Pacific Crossing and we’re just under 900 miles away from Papa. The winds have been amazing and we’ve had 6-9 foot seas for the past week. We adjusted course this morning so we’re now on our rhumb line to our destination.

The Challenges

We’ve had a few challenges along the way. For example, we tracked down noises on the boat and ended up lubing up our Hollard with conditioner for the fifth time this trip! Sounds silly, but it works.

The Experiences

One of the most interesting things we’ve experienced on this journey is changing time zones. We’ve changed time zones a couple times and it’s been a little confusing at times.

The Arrival

We finally arrived in the Marquesas Islands, and we could not be more thrilled. We had an anxious but exciting few days leading up to our arrival.

What’s Next?

Now that we’ve completed this epic journey across the Pacific Ocean, we’ll be taking a few days to catch up on sleep and cleaning. However, our adventures will continue – check back next week for more details.
