We love a good challenge, but totally UNDERESTIMATED what we signed up for when we purchased this run-down Airstream trailer with the vision to convert it into our DREAM tiny home on wheels! 🚌 With a recent eviction notice, we had just 60 days to make this Airstream tiny home move-in-ready ⏲
Join James this episode as he crushes some solo projects, including the dreaded toilet takeout, followed by 22 HOURS OF CONTINUOUS SANDING! 😅 (the 2 minutes we’ve edited into this video does not do the enormity of this task justice). WHAT A SAINT! 🙏
No joke. It took 3 whole days to sand 53 years of paint and crud off of the Airstream’s interior, a necessary step to ensure that new primer & paint would stick to the vinyl wraps (the plastic coating also known as the ‘skins’ which line the Airstream’s interior walls).
We had done our research and we were familiar with the first steps involved in restoring an old airstream trailer:
Demolition – Cleaning – Sanding – Priming – Painting – all before we could get started with rebuilding!
Airstream-reno guru’s will tell you that a ‘full’ Airstream restoration would have looked like us taking ‘the skins’ off, but as we explain in this episode that just wasn’t an option for us this time around.
We just didn’t have the time or the space to complete that sort of restoration. We made it work! Using the existing holes in the walls we could thread new electrical underneath the vinyl wraps so that we could actually have an outlet in the wall! 🔌Brilliant?!
After a long work week, I join James later in the episode to tag team the rest of our tiny home to-do list (new sub-floor, paint scraping, patching), before finally transforming the Airstream with a beautiful coat of white paint! 🖌
AND I learn how to use a new tool!! Rivet Gun anyone?! Turns out this tool requires some serrrious hand strength ✋

👫WHO WE ARE
We are a couple from opposite sides of the world making life together in a teeny-tiny 160 square feet.
Our current tiny home is a vintage Airstream trailer nestled in the woods here in the Canadian Pacific Northwest! We like to call her Streamy, our adventure basecamp!
Sounds dreamy right? Well let us tell you that it isn’t as easy as it looks & the process of building our dream tiny home on wheels (in just 60 days) was freaking hard!!!
When we’re not enduring these self-imposed suffer-fests (i.e. our DIY projects & long grueling hikes up mountainsides) you’ll find us out on the ocean, living and sailing around the PNW on our little sailboat. She’s a Catalina 30 and we’ve been enjoying the challenge of restoring her & teaching ourselves how to sail! ⛵
OUR STORY
I (Allison, the Newfie) met James (the Aussie) while working on a remote island 3 years ago.
A decade working in healthcare has helped us both to appreciate the preciousness of this one beautiful life we’ve been given.
Viewing TIME as our most valuable gift, we’ve been feeling an urgency in our lives to Live All Out!
We decided to make some BOLD moves, hit PAUSE on our conventional careers & work full time, turning our DREAMS into reality.
This is the beginning of our YouTube journey & over the next few weeks we will be sharing our first steps towards making full-time adventure possible.
We’ll be posting weekly videos that document our DIY projects, tiny-home living & our land & sea adventures.
