Well, it’s been three weeks and and the boatyard is still working to replace Varuna’s bowsprit. We decide it’s time for Ty to be done with work, so we can be there to make sure the work is progressing so that we can get out of there!

While we wait, we get up to some projects ourselves… deep in the cockpit and anchor lockers. Our anchor locker has proved to be problematic, with chain piling below the hawse pipe, getting wedged in tight spaces, and wrapping around the inner forestay. We come up with a floor to put in the locker to protect some of the equipment below, and try to make an easier path for the chain to slide down.

Next, on to the cockpit lockers! Those big, caverness lockers are great for storing stuff, but hard to keep organized. We decide to add some shelves inside to help separate the space and give us bit more organization.

Through both of these projects, we have lots of fun learning how epoxy and fiberglassing works, it’s not perfect, but we’re learning! After getting so dirty, it’s time for Hillary to try her very first shower on board Varuna! Not too bad… Check it out!
