Yes, I have to say it is heartbreaking to see footage of a friend’s sailboat burning and quickly disappearing to the bottom of the sea, and without a reasonable explanation of what happened.. but this sailboat caught fire from a runaway diesel when the diesel engine suddenly raced out of control until it was superheated and started the engine room on fire.. and without warning, while the boat was at sea. Our hearts go out to Fred in this terrible aftermath of having suffered the loss of his boat completely, and we hope we can find cause and resolution to hopefully avoid the same from happening to anyone else. Stay tuned as I’ll post an update after I have more information from a company that can help prevent a runaway diesel from happening on just about any diesel engine.

We Couldn’t Slow Down — Squalls from San Blas to San Andrés | SSL780

Yesterday turquoise meant danger under the keel. Today the danger was the sky. We left San Blas under a wall of rain, ran a thrill ride of squalls and following seas into Linton Bay — then the next morning pointed at San Andrés. 27 hours. About 9 knots average. Surfing past 10 when the ocean picked...

SAN BLAS Panama — The Reefs That Sink Boats Here | SSL779

The San Blas Islands are one of the most beautiful places we have ever sailed. They are also one of the most technically demanding. Over 100 kilometres of coral reef protects this archipelago — and that same reef has ended a lot of sailing dreams. After 28 hours of open Caribbean, we arrived in Gun...

SSL775 ~ Pablo Escobar's ABANDONED MANSION..? Hidden in the turquoise waters of Colombia’s Rosario Islands sits a crumbling white mansion slowly being swallowed by the jungle. Locals have whispered for decades that it once belonged to Pablo Escobar — his secret Caribbean hideaway. We took the d...
