SSL776 ~ First Overnight Test after Refit.. How did She perform?

After almost a year on the hard, Sophisticated Lady is back where she belongs — offshore, under full sail, heading somewhere extraordinary.

We pulled anchor from the stunning Rosario Islands of Colombia at dawn and pointed the bow toward one of the most legendary sailing destinations on the planet: the San Blas Islands of Panama. 28 hours of open Caribbean Sea between us and paradise — dolphins at the bow, a full moon lighting the night, a 3am squall that tested the new refit, and Ricci monitoring both fishing rods like his life depended on it.

This is what we came back for.

In this episode: ⛵ Departing the Rosario Islands, Colombia at dawn 🐬 A massive school of dolphins joins us at the bow 🌙 Night sailing under a full moon across the Caribbean ⛈️ Our first squall of the season at 3am — the refit gets its real test 🌅 Maddy's sunrise watch — 27 miles to go 🏝️ First sight of the San Blas Islands (Kuna Yala), Panama 🎣 Ricci, age 4, managing both fishing rods simultaneously

About Sophisticated Lady: SV Sophisticated Lady is a 51-foot Jeanneau sloop and the full-time home of Captain Rick, Maddy, and Ricci. We've been living aboard and sailing since 2005 — over 120,000 miles at sea, no marina, no mortgage, no plan B. This is our life.

After a major refit in Colombia — solar, rigging, canvas, new bottom paint, electronics, and more — we're back offshore and heading toward Panama, the San Blas archipelago, and whatever comes next.

The San Blas Islands (Kuna Yala): The San Blas archipelago consists of 365 islands along Panama's northeastern Caribbean coast — governed not by Panama, but by the Kuna (Guna) people, one of the most remarkable indigenous communities in the Western Hemisphere. They've protected their culture, their language, and their territory for centuries. We'll be spending serious time here — more to come.
