Mastering The Main Sail in Ayvalık: Reefing, tacking & jibing (Catamaran)
Ep. 124 ~ In this episode, we continue to sail up the beautiful Turkish west coast with our good friend and sailing instructor, Anthony. We've arrived in the charming city of Ayvalık and are spending our last day with Anthony on board by practicing sailing with our enormous main sail. From raising and lowering the mainsail to learning how to reef—putting two reefs in, to be exact—we're getting hands-on experience. Anthony also guides us through the differences between tacking and jibing, adjusting the traveler, and executing a controlled jibe. Plus, we explore using autopilot's wind hold function.
When we’re not on the water, we take a walking tour of Ayvalık’s historic streets, soaking in the sights before moving the catamaran from the anchorage into the marina. We say goodbye to Anthony and prepare to rent a car and head off to Istanbul for our next adventure.
