Ep. 220 ~ After months living on land, we're moving back aboard our catamaran, Oka, in Preveza, Greece and getting her ready for Season 4 of our sailing adventure in the Ionian. And, as usual, things don't go quite according to plan!
We start bringing Oka out of hibernation and slowly getting her back into shape for life aboard. There's a LOT to do — cleaning, maintenance, putting the sails and running rigging back together and getting our floating home ready to sail again.
We work with Alex from AP Sails to get the sails and running rigging back in place, and with Yacht Shelter as we have new clears, screens, a sail bag and other canvas work made for Oka.
Then our list of jobs starts getting longer.
We work on our Fischer Panda generator, only to discover that the brand-new battery wasn't the problem. There's a contamination problem that needs investigating, and suddenly our “get ready for sailing season” project has become a little more complicated.
Once we move back aboard Oka, we're finally able to start settling back into life on the boat — including a couple of much-needed haircuts. But the boat isn't quite finished with us yet. We discover rust on several items in the engine bay, including the accumulator and hot-water heater, adding a few more jobs to the ever-growing list.
This is what getting a liveaboard catamaran ready for another season really looks like: make a list, start checking things off... and watch the list get longer.
Thanks for coming along with us!
We are Claudine and Donovan. A few years ago, we sold almost everything we owned, bought a catamaran, and decided to see where the boat would take us. Now we're living aboard Oka and exploring the Mediterranean one season at a time.
