Anchoring is always a different challenge. Conditions always vary, especially in Cape Verde. And in this case Tarrafal do Santiago. There was swell and many rocks below the surface and not much sand for the anchor to stick. But we managed, and thanks to a wonderful family of Pirates, we were able to go ashore a few days. We went to visit Praia, Cape Verde’s capital city. It’s not recommended to anchor in the bay of Praia. Even the police say it’s best to leave your boat in Tarrafal and go to the city by car. Which is what we did. A two hour ride across the entire island from North to South. The weather was amazing so the views of the dramatic landscape were spectacular. Once in Praia, we rented an apartment thanks to our friend Carlos in an upscale suburb of the city and visited the city’s center. Once again, Cape Verde never ceases to amaze me.

Some say it’s The Best Sailing Channel on YouTube!
