Earns his Swiss offshore sailing license and refits his boat. Then sails alone from the south of France along the Spanish coast to Tangiers Morocco. On to the Canary Islands where he learned how to manage in extreme ocean conditions. Continues south to the Cabo Verde Islands, land of the most beautiful people ever. He learns to speak the local Creole language so to better understand the Cape Verdean culture. To enjoy life, feel young and love again. He recovers from hip replacement surgery and sails on to the great African continent where few sailors dare to go. His story is one of an old geezer living the life of a full time sailor with all it’s perils and pleasures. So hang on, eat, dance, laugh, love and discover the world with him and his boat Galopin. We have visited 4 out of 10 Cape Verde islands. And now we’re preparing the boat to sail out Mindelo Bay. Next is the eastern most island called Sal. After about 7 months here, Galopin has grown quite a bit of undergrowth on its hull and it must be cleaned. He also needs a new engine battery, and the mast and rigging must also be cleaned and checked. This is where the help of friends come in play. Friends like Peixe and Koive who really clean up. And we must say “au revoir” to the live aboard folks who make up our anchorage community. We made wonderful friends in Mindelo, but it’s time to go and continue the voyage and make new friends.
