Earns his Swiss offshore sailing license and refits his boat. Then sails alone from the south of France along the Spanish coast to Tangiers Morocco. On to the Canary Islands where he learned how to manage in extreme ocean conditions. Continues south to the Cabo Verde Islands, land of the most beautiful people ever. He learns to speak the local Creole language so to better understand the Cape Verdean culture. To enjoy life, feel young and love again. He recovers from hip replacement surgery and sails on to the great African continent where few sailors dare to go. His story is one of an old geezer living the life of a full time sailor with all it’s perils and pleasures. So hang on, eat, dance, laugh, love and discover the world with him and his boat Galopin. For seasoned sailors the answer is obvious. As well for arm chair sailors. But we begin this episode with a pretty lousy day at anchor. Which is a consistent 35kts of wind for most of the day hoping your boat won’t drag. (My friend Tito’s does). But we’ve got an fantastic soundtrack from John D’Brava. So we decide to cross the Sao Vicente canal, and it’s a challenge that I take on solo. Later, I have a Dream Team Crew to cross the canal again on what I consider the best day of sailing I’ve had in Cape Verde so far. Better than sex.
