Earns his Swiss offshore sailing license and refits his boat. Then sails alone from the south of France along the Spanish coast to Tangiers Morocco. On to the Canary Islands where he learned how to manage in extreme ocean conditions. Continues south to the Cabo Verde Islands, land of the most beautiful people ever. He learns to speak the local Creole language so to better understand the Cape Verdean culture. To enjoy life, feel young and love again. He recovers from hip replacement surgery and sails on to the great African continent where few sailors dare to go. His story is one of an old geezer living the life of a full time sailor with all it’s perils and pleasures. So hang on, eat, dance, laugh, love and discover the world with him and his boat Galopin. When hauling out here, you have ten days included in the price of the haul out. Sidney, my local naval engineer is convinced we will be done in seven days. There is a lot to do in that time. Sanding of the hull. Rudder preparation. Epoxy filling in rudder mold. Curing and sanding. Painting epoxy primer. Gel coat. And anti-fouling. As well Alex, my mechanical engineer dropped the rudder. Cleaned out the fuel system and did a lube job on my Perkins 4-108. And then we have to put Galopin back in the water. And that’s an interesting experience.
