Me and Wendy have been sailing together, but she gets seasick. So I do all of the sailing solo and she stays down below deck. We head up north the coast of Santiago to Tarrafal. The wind is in my face so I zigzag close to short to stay away from swell and waves. In Tarrafal we hang out with local surfers. And the next day we go all the way back to Praia by taxi to fetch our boat documents from the Maritime Police. That night we set sail for Mindelo. The passage is hard on all of us. Upwind against waves and current. It gets strongest as the day progresses. I push with the engine, and then it cuts out. I’m screwed. Sailing Galopin in Cabo Verde Africa.
