On to the Canary Islands where he learned how to manage in extreme ocean conditions. Continues south to the Cabo Verde Islands, land of the most beautiful people ever. He learns to speak the local Creole language so to better understand the Cape Verdean culture. To enjoy life, feel young and love again. He recovers from hip replacement surgery and sails on to the great African continent where few sailors dare to go. His story is one of an old geezer living the life of a full time sailor with all it’s perils and pleasures. So hang on, eat, dance, laugh, love and discover the world with him and his boat Galopin. I’m a little more than halfway to French Guyana, and entering a different weather zone. I’m in the tropics. It’s blistering hot and clouds are forming all around me and the 40ft. boat I’m delivering. As well I’m in the Saragassum sea. There’s floating algae everywhere. And some of it gets stuck in the propeller and the engine is acting up. So I dig deep in the boat in search of a Spinnaker. I find it and hoist it. It’s glorious sailing. Until one night a vicious lightning storm. I can’t bring down the spinnaker and all hell breaks loose. I was able to let all the lines go, except one of he Spinnaker sheets gets knotted and the boat is laying on its side, and the Spinnaker about to tear to pieces. Luckily the storm passes and everything calms down. But I did break the Spinnaker pole. So the journey continues.
