Why Jarabacoa Is the Adventure Capital of the Dominican Republic

We packed up in Luperón and hit the road for the mountains of Jarabacoa— trading ocean breezes for cool air and jungle-covered peaks.

After a scenic drive through the Dominican countryside, we rented a house in Las Guázaras, perfectly tucked into the hills. From there, the adventure really began.

With our 2 and 3 year old in tow, we tackled the steep and strenuous hike up Montaña El Mogote. It wasn’t easy — sharp climbs, and lots of toddler encouragement — but the panoramic views made every step worth it.

We cooled off at Balneario Salto El Baiguate, absolutely stunning. A powerful waterfall, fresh mountain water, and that feeling of having a place almost entirely to ourselves.

We also explored the town of Jarabacoa, wandered through Parque La Confluencia, and crossed the suspended bridge over the mighty Río Yaque del Norte — the longest river in the Dominican Republic.

Mountains, waterfalls, family adventures, and unforgettable views — this is why Jarabacoa is known as the adventure capital of the DR.
