After watching a huge submarine being towed on the Elizabeth River in Portsmouth Virginia we jump on our sailboat. Everyone back home has talked so much about this moment. The start of the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) in Norfolk Virginia. This long stretch of protected waterways runs all the way South to Florida. And here you have to decide if you want to go around the Virginia cut or enter the Great Dismal Swamp Canal. We heard many warnings saying how it wasn’t a very deep canal and how the duckweed was extremely thick in areas. However we also heard how some people had made it through and how breathtaking it was. So we decided to take that turn and enjoy the Dismal Swamp Park and it’s beauty which came with a very eventful day or days should I say.
