Boats are DRAGGING | Leaving NYC for the Storm [295]
This week, Carl and Cory, from the Wildly Intrepid Sailing channel, are heading out to the Atlantic on a thrilling adventure despite facing storms in their path.

Boats Dragging in the Storm

The crew decides to hop on the outside along New Jersey’s coast but quickly realizes they have to adjust their plans due to the unforgiving weather. Their new plan is to find a secure spot to anchor, wait out the storm, and protect themselves from strong winds while allowing their clothing, wet from recent rains, to dry before embarking further on their journey.

New York City Sights and Storm Adjustments

Their plans take another unexpected turn as they sail past New York’s stunning Manhattan skyline, feeling small among the towering skyscrapers. Although excited about their location, they recognize that sailing along the coast outside of New York City can be challenging and is reliant on finding the perfect weather window, constantly changing in unpredictable ways.

Narrow Passage Through Narrows

Carl’s passion for sailing in New York City continues to shine through as they aim to make their way towards Coney Island. While navigating a narrow passage, the duo faces harsh winds and strong currents, experiencing tough sailing conditions head-on while trying to avoid damage to their boat.

Anchoring at a Protected Location

They decide to anchor in a protected location near Coney Island to shield themselves from the rough weather, realizing that they’ve found the ideal spot. Coral watches as Carl sets up the anchor in thick mud and secure surroundings, making note of their determination and expertise in overcoming various obstacles while sailing along the East Coast.

Dealing with Leaks

Throughout this adventure, Carl mentions his frustrations regarding constant leaks aboard their boat. He discusses past efforts to seal the leaks with various materials, such as tape and windscreen adhesive, while finding more leaks in other areas during storms. Carl’s persistent issue with a leaky boat fuels his frustration during intense weather conditions and the ongoing need for regular maintenance to keep their sailboat seaworthy.

A Perfect Day for Pancakes

On one particularly rainy day, Cory helps Carl create a special breakfast for Coral, using the time to bond with his family and keep their spirits high during unpredictable weather conditions. This unexpected day at sea proves to be an opportunity for them to share laughs and memories as they navigate the choppy waters of the East Coast.

Moving South Along the New Jersey Coast

Finally, with plans to move south along the New Jersey coast, Carl discusses their decision to make some brownies and prep for the journey. As they anticipate the weather changes ahead, they are eager to overcome challenges in finding suitable wind conditions for an enjoyable crossing while ensuring safety for themselves and the family.

Thank You To Our Patrons

Carl extends gratitude to their patrons, including L, Joan Scott, Elson Brett Smith, and Jim, for supporting their videos and making this journey possible. This outpouring of support keeps the crew motivated while continuing to produce captivating content about their sailing adventures off the East Coast. The Wildly Intrepid Sailing community looks forward to seeing more updates from their favorite seafarers in upcoming episodes.
NYC is amazing, especially when you sail next to Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. With a storm coming our way we make our way down the Hudson River to Coney Island. After a bumpy ride and a way too narrow entrance we finally find protection, or so we thought. Strong wind have boats dragging all around us. Filmed October 2023.

If you like what you see don't forget to give us the thumbs up!
